New Release Review: Unrest (Unknown #2)
by Wendy Higgins

Unrest, the second book in the Unknown series by Wendy Higgins, released this week and today as part of the blog tour, I bring you my spoiler-free review! I am thankful for the opportunity to read an early copy in exchange for my honest review.  I loved book 1, Unknown (book details below), it was so different to read about the end of modern society as we know it, but from the beginning stages, right up until most major and minor cities were bombed. So if you haven’t read Unknown, pick that up and start this series today!

Being on the run in the desert means food and sanctuary are hard to come by, but Amber Tate and her crew are not about to give up. Not after having so many of the things they love brutally ripped from them by an unknown enemy who sent their world into the apocalypse.

Survival takes precedence, but once safe shelter is found, their guards fall and the emotions they’ve been holding in are finally released. Anger, insecurities…lust. In their tight quarters, Amber, Rylen, Tater, and Remy can’t escape it. The past must be faced, and passions run even stronger in the darkest of times.

In the midst of unrest, their worlds are rocked again when they discover the truth about the war that’s ruined their lives. They thought finding out the enemy’s identity would give them the edge; instead it’s revealed terrifying dangers they never thought possible.

Review:

*possible minor spoilers from book 1 may be present

Rating: ★★★★★
“We are the past and present, and we are the future. It’s up to us.”

Unrest picks up right where Unknown left off. Right into the crazed aftermath of witnessing the horrors of this new world order. They are on the run through the desert, trying to escape the same deadly fate as many others, albeit wholly unprepared. I will admit that reading this book during these times of political unrest in our country made me sleepless at night. It feels so real, so possible, and really makes you think about what would you do without running water, electricity, coffee, or chocolate!

Going through this journey with Amber, Remy, Tater, Rylen and the rest of the crew was really emotional. They each are suffering from loss, they each have their own ways with dealing with their current circumstances that you can’t help but relate to each and every single one of them. Throw in the roller-coaster of Amber’s internal struggle to come to grips with her unending love for Rylen, and how to express it to him without possibly ruining their close bonds if he rejects her. Their relationship is so heartwarming and I could feel my pulse quicken with Ambers’ every time she got too close to Ry. Swoon! I especially love a romance that you have to work for…that is as a reader! I was cheering for Amber and Rylen so hard that sometimes I forgot about the horrors I was reading! Yes, Wendy Higgins can write some of the steamiest scenes I have ever read.

This book is packed with real life scenarios that I felt I could learn something from especially since I have no military background or experience. Complete civvy, without any real useful knowledge. I probably can relate to Remy the most, who studied Biology in college as I did, and had the least non-military experience of the group. I also feel as though we are completely different personality wise, well maybe not when I was in college, I was a little more like her back then. But I always look for myself in the books I read. Her and Tater had so much grief that it literally made me choke up at times. So realistic and so much feeling. I loved them together, helping each other get through these awful times.

In Unrest, we get everything I wanted. Answers for a lot of the burning questions, although we are left with more, and oh my gawd, the heat level rises (yes!). You will not be able to put this book down until the very last page and then you might be angry like me, because well, it leaves you on baited breath that is for sure. I can’t even tell you how much I want the final book! I need it, NOW! There is action, danger, romance, and most of all hope. Unrest was absolutely everything I wanted it to be and more! I had no idea how much I needed this book in my life right now.

Unknown (Unknown #1) by Wendy Higgins

Publication: August 16th, 2016
Purchase: Amazon

Amber Tate believes the worst thing she’ll suffer in life is dealing with the unrequited love she feels for her brother’s best friend, Rylen Fite. She also believes war is something unfortunate that happens places far, far away from her rural Nevada town. She’s wrong on both counts.

When an unknown organization meticulously bombs major cities in the United States and across the globe, a trickle-down effect spreads to remaining towns at an alarming speed—everything from food and water sources to technology and communications are compromised. Without leadership, the nation is split between paralysis and panic, but Amber isn’t one to hide or watch helplessly. She’s determined to put her nursing skills to use, despite the danger, even if it means working alongside the man she can never have.

In this first installment of NY Times bestselling author, Wendy Higgins’s debut New Adult series, a frighteningly realistic apocalyptic America is brought to life, entwined with searing romantic tension that will leave you eager for more.
