Book Rewind · Review: It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover

It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover is today’s pick for our Book Rewind feature. I originally reviewed this book back in 2016, when the book was released, so if this review seems familiar that could be why.

Book Rewind is a meme where we review a backlist title to distinguish reviewed books that are not a new release. We noticed we tend to review almost all new or newly released books and wanted to have a feature to spotlight some older books that we either just read or are just reviewing because we never got around to it, or possibly didn’t blog back then! This meme will be posted on Thursdays as a ‘Throwback Thursday’ kind of deal.

We totally encourage others to participate in the Book Rewind Review meme! Backlist titles need love too! Feel free to use our banner and be sure to link back to our page and tag us on social media so we can help promote your posts too!

SOMETIMES THE ONE WHO LOVES YOU IS THE ONE WHO HURTS YOU THE MOST

Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up – she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life suddenly seems almost too good to be true.

Ryle is assertive, stubborn, and maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily, but Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing.

As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan – her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.

With this bold and deeply personal novel, Colleen Hoover delivers a heart-wrenching story that breaks exciting new ground for her as a writer. It Ends With Us is an unforgettable tale of love that comes at the ultimate price.

This book contains graphic scenes and very sensitive subject matter.

Review:

Rating: ★★★★☆

It Ends With Us sucked me in from page one and never let go. I was captivated by the tale of Lily and Ryle.

This is Colleen at her best. It’s so different from anything else she’d written, and I was stunned by the complexity of this story. It’s so beautifully written. In true Colleen fashion, she weaves a tale of romance that is simple, yet isn’t. Everyday life is anything but in the world of Hoover.

I think what I appreciated most about It Ends With Us is the realism and truths it invokes. This isn’t one of those perfect relationship stories. There are ups and downs, just like real life. It’s a valid look into life and I really appreciated the personal aspects, too. It’s emotionally gritty and heartbreaking in many cases. But I’d want and expect nothing less from the remarkable Colleen Hoover. My favorite part was Lily’s backstory — and Atlas. I found myself falling in love with a teenager even while Lily was falling in love with a neurosurgeon. First loves and all that.

The ending sends a powerful message to people everywhere. This book will inspire. This book will give strength. This book will tell you to never give up. This book will demand you see your worth. This book is HOPE.

This book is nothing short of real. It’s devastatingly beautiful and real and will slam into readers’ hearts.
