Jessa has spent her life dreaming of other worlds and writing down stories more interesting than her own, until the day her favorite character, Finn, suddenly shows up and invites her out for coffee. After the requisite nervous breakdown, Jessa learns that she and Finn are Travelers, born with the ability to slide through reflections and dreams into alternate realities. But it’s not all steampunk pirates and fantasy lifestyles…Jessa is dying over and over again, in every reality, and Finn is determined that this time, he’s going to stop it… this Jessa is going to live.

Review:

Rating: ★★★½☆

Traveler has intrigued me for a while now. The cover captured my attention first, but that summary was what clinched the interest. I really did enjoy the story.

Jessa is a Traveler—someone who can travel between dimensions. But, unfortunately, someone is trying to erase her. In every reality. Finn is another Traveler; one who wants to protect her and always seems to be a catalyst for her demise. As they attempt to seek out who is trying to kill her (and why), things really start to get more dangerous.

I definitely loved visiting the other realms. There weren’t many, but the one she seemed to enjoy the most was my favorite. I mean, captain/pirate Finn is HOT. I could easily read an entire novella about that particular world. I loved the concept and traveling, even if I was still questioning the whys of it all for most of the book. It does eventually get explained, thankfully.

The story is pretty well-paced. I do think at times it was at a standstill and nothing was really happening. However, once it gets going, you’ll find yourself glued to the pages, desperate to get to the end. The mystery of “who” was quite a surprise to me. I never trust anyone in books, so had nearly everyone as a suspect. The reveal of the main instigator wasn’t necessarily a surprise, but the one carrying out the wishes was. I feel like an idiot for not catching it, but I sort of blame my focus on the “love triangle” for missing it.

Speaking of love triangles, this one was obvious, but not to Jessa. I definitely saw the feelings from both Ben and Finn. And I suppose because of the circumstances, I definitely leaned more towards Finn. (I blame the pirate version!) But really, both were great characters and had their own strengths and lovable traits.

Traveler ends on a pretty intense note. One that I wasn’t too happy about. I don’t mean it sucked at all. It’s just one of those things you don’t want to happen, happened. But, since the story is really just beginning, I have faith. This is definitely a strong start and I will pick up book two to see where Jessa’s story takes us next!
